Job Summary:

The job holder is expected to support the bank in the conversion process to Islamic banking, and ensure that all the units (Shariah audit, shariah review, shariah advisory, shariah risk, shariah research and training, and shariah compliance) are working as per bank policy procedure and DAB requirements. Assist the Shariah Board in the bank shariah related frameworks and policies with reference to Islamic law, guidelines and international shariah standards for Islamic banking.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Act as the secretariat for the Shariah Board.
  • Shall provide necessary support to the Bank’s product development team, business units, branches and its Head Office departments in their day-to-day Shari’ah related issues, queries etc. under the guidance/advice of the Shari’ah Board.
  • Responsible in ensuring that Islamic Banking procedures, processes, products and services are complying with the Shariah principles.
  • Prepare Shariah audit plan and conduct Shariah Audit to ensure Shariah compliance.
  • Prepare Shariah review plan and conduct Shariah Review to ensure Shariah compliance.
  • Provide Shariah advisory role to the Management in all aspect to ensure Shariah compliance.
  • Conduct Shariah training on Islamic finance, AAOIFI standards, product structure and Shariah compliance for the Bank’s staff.
  • Organize and conduct public awareness campaign for the Bank in relation to Islamic Banking.
  • Conduct Shariah Research role and Assist in Shariah Risk Management role.
  • Act as the focal point for all communication between Management and the Shariah Board and Board of supervisor.
  • Act as the focal point for all communication with DAB’s Islamic banking department in relation to Shariah matters.
  • Help the Bank in coming up and developing the new and innovative Shariah-compliant products.
  • Work with critical departments of the Bank, to make sure that the Bank is conducting its activities in compliance with Shariah rules and principles and Shariah Board resolutions.


  • Minimum degree in Shariah/Islamic Studies, Islamic Banking and Finance or its equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience preferably in Islamic Banking industry.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A team player who is self-motivated and results-oriented.
  • Having good Shariah Knowledge.


  • Master Degree in Islamic Studies/Shariah or Islamic Banking and Finance. Islamic Jurisprudence (Usul- al-Fiqh).
  • Islamic transaction. / commercial law (Fiqh ul- Mu’amalat) OR Relevant experience and knowledge in Shariah and Islamic banking.


  • Strong knowledge of Shariah & law or Fqih ul- Muamalat or experience of at least 5 years in Islamic banking industry. 

Skills & Competencies:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication Skills.
  • Proficiency in local languages and English.
  • Knowledge of Islamic Finance industry, AAOIFI standards.
  • Experience in giving Shariah opinion on Islamic Finance transactions.
  • Excellent decision making and leadership skills
